Fairground Attraction – Christopher Rimmer at Port Jackson Press Gallery

Between the 2nd and 30th of March 2016 Port Jackson Press and Angela Tandori Fine Art will host an exhibition featuring exclusive work from St Kilda native, Christopher Rimmer.
From the 2nd till the 30th of March, Port Jackson Press (PJP) and Angela Tandori Fine Art  (ATFA) will host an exhibition featuring four contemporary Melbourne-based artists.  Among these is the internationally acclaimed and Melbourne-based photographer, Christopher Rimmer who provides a deliciously dark series capturing the St Kilda landmark, Luna Park.

Rimmer’s series ‘Luna Park and the Dark Heart of St Kilda’ transforms the park from tourist hotspot, to leering mouth poised to swallow us whole.  Underpinning the series is Rimmer’s experience of St Kilda.  For him, the once vibrant hub has morphed into something more vacant and alien.  He recalls rumours surrounding the park and a book called Leonski – The Brown Out Murders which profiles Edward Leonski.  Apparently, the notorious killer considered Luna Park a favourite haunt.  These influences form shots so unerring Rimmer was banned from entering with his camera.  Despite this, Angela Tandori encouraged him to continue.  The results are captivating – stalking the park’s now impenetrable facade.

Rimmer – known for working with international subject matter, returns home with this series exclusive to Eclipse.  In 2015 he was nominated by US magazine Art Business News as a ‘Top Artist to Watch’.  Combining his talent and unique perspective, Rimmer breathes life into the seaside suburb, seeing it through a whole new lense.
